Marie Montero was one of the youngest of the original colonists that came to Coyote aboard the Alabama. However, childhoods are harsh on Coyote, and when her parents were attacked by a mysterious native creature just days after they got to the new world, Marie and her brother found themselves orphaned.
Under the care of her older brother Carlos, and the other colonists, friends of her parents, the next few years were relatively problem free. However, when The Western Hemisphere Union arrived in CY 03, she joined Regil Kent, the Resistance Movement, founded by her brother. Carlos was not convinced a civil war was the place for his younger sister, but drastic times called for drastic measures, and as much as Carlos disliked the situation, Marie was an excellent shot.
However, once the war had been won, and Regil Kent was disbanded, having served its purpose, the war had already twisted her mind. Carlos saw a bloodthirsty war veteran, where his little teenage sister should have been. She’d been playing with guns, instead of dolls. And even after peace and freedom had been restored, Marie and Lars Thompson were still picking fights; even once the Union had left Coyote.
When they found themselves in the stockade once more, after causing another brawl, Carlos decided to teach Marie a lesson in valuing the freedom they had thought so long to re-claim. They would be exiled from Liberty for six months, given a limited supply of rations, and instructed to sail uncharted areas of Coyote, for the benefit of the colony, in the hope that the expedition would straighten them out…
