Kuniko Okada was the Chief Physician aboard The URSS Alabama, and a trusted member of Captain Lee’s conspiracy. She was officially to be the first person to be revived from biostasis by the star ship’s Artificial Intelligence system, and was then responsible for monitoring the health of the remaining ninety-nine passengers.
It was kuniko who first learned that, against the official protocol, someone had been revived before her, a realisation that led Captain Lee to the capture of Eric Gunther, who’s role was to destroy the ship if it fell into the hands of the conspirators.
After his capture, and his suicide, she adopted his daughter, Wendy Gunther, who had been brought aboard by her father, and was now orphaned. The two formed a close bond during Wendy’s childhood, and it was Kuniko who encouraged Wendy to write a journal, which eventually became the official Wendy Gunther Memoirs, which document many of Coyote’s early historical events.
