Clarksburg was founded as Riverport, by Lars Thompson, Marie Montero, and Manuel Castro, during their exile from Liberty. It was the first settlement to be founded west of Liberty, and the first on the newly explored continent of Great Dakota. Deciding not to return to Liberty once their six-month exile was over, they decided to remain in Riverport, where they were soon joined by the rest of the Thompson family. Eventually, most of the former Thompson Ferry residents had rejoined their old community, and Clark Thompson was again elected Mayor.
However, the town was struck with tragedy, when Clark was killed, when a beam fell on him, while working for the newly founded Thompson Wood Company. In his memory, the town was renamed Clarksburg. Lars Thompson assumed the role of Mayor, but was soon removed from office, when he became an aggressive drunk, who criticised the workers. Clark’s wife Molly was elected, and under her the colony became self sufficient, with the family business the backbone of a thriving Clarksburg economy.
As a result of a project led by Marie Montero and Garth Thompson, three wind turbines were erected, which provided the town with enough renewable energy to run the timber mills, and the rest of the town.
